OFTP was originally introduced onto the market for one
purpose only; to support the exchange of data between development
partners in the European automotive industry. Since then
it has gone through various modifications and updates in
order to be more in line with market demand and business
interests. Today, eleven years later it is still the most
common communication protocol within this particular line
of business and used by most major European Motor Manufacturers
and their suppliers. Now we also see a shift towards other
business sectors, such as chemical industry, white goods
manufacturers and banking.
The latest addition to the OFTP protocol, OFTP V2 provides
all the extra security functionality for safe data exchange
over the Internet. OFTP was actually not intended for Internet
communication originally, however gradually as market demands
evolved in new directions, also the OFTP protocol had to
take on a new form. The added functionality ensures message
safety between sender and receiver (automotive partners),
including confidential information such as price data and
design. Some of the previous features have also been revised
and enhanced in the new OFTP V2, thus improving both usability
and acceptability of OFTP across the world.
