Summary of article

When Karolinska Hospital realised that the point-to-point connections that for so long had constituted the backbone of the IT-architecture no longer lived up to expectations, the eyes fell upon xTrade Business Communications Suite.

By integrating the IT-processes with xTrade BCS, Karolinska Hospital has been able to improve the IT-structure and avoid connections that earlier had proven to be both resource demanding and time consuming.

All communication between Karolinska Hospital and their suppliers/services now passes through the platform as well as SSL´s (Stockholms Läns Landsting) all referrals and laboratory results. Presently a total of 30 different systems exchange information with each other, says Alexander Stendahl, IT-coordinator within the EDI-group at the hospital, to CIO.

xTrade BCS was chosen partly because of the high security level. The hospital wanted to make sure that the message handling would stay intact, security procedures such as encryption was therefore something that the hospital demanded. Previously none of the hospital suppliers had used a general mode of encryption. Instead they all demanded that the hospital would use the suppliers´ own server and client, with xTrade BCS all this changed since all encryption is handled within the platform.

Ever since the implementation of xTrade BCS everything has run smoothly and the feedback from the users has been nothing but positive. That xTrade BCS will be a lasting element at Karolinska Hospital is Alex Stendahl sure of. -"-xTrade BCS will last for many years. Xware strongly proves that development of the product will continue on, striving to be in the frontline with the latest technology," Alex Stendahl concludes.
